At the ongoing Gothia Cup in Sweden, a Nigerian team is grabbing attention for both their “steeze” and their skills.
Beyond Limits Football Academy, based in Ikenne, Ogun State, is participating in the Gothia PUMA Trophy, a prestigious tournament for U17 players.
Beyond Limits stood out during the opening ceremony, proudly showcasing their cultural heritage in flowing green agbada attires made from traditional Ankara fabrics.
“Our dressing is a powerful statement of cultural pride and the promotion of Nigerian fashion,” the club declared on their social media page.
Beyond Style
But Beyond Limits is more than just stylish.
They’re proving their talent on the pitch as well, winning their first two games with a staggering 10 goals scored.
Kparobo Arierhi, the 18-year-old striker, stole the spotlight in their opening match against GIF Sundsvall. Arierhi’s sensational first-half hat-trick propelled his team to a convincing 5-1 victory.
This performance came as no surprise, as Arierhi has been a force for Beyond Limits, having netted 22 goals in just 15 appearances last season and helping the team secure their fourth consecutive TCC title.
Muhammed Abdullahi and Sunday Ogbonnya also chipped in with goals, solidifying Beyond Limits’ dominant start in Sweden.
Aiming Higher
The Nigerian team hasn’t reached their limit yet. Their second match saw another decisive win, defeating Norway’s Rosenborg Ballklub 5-2.
Following another five-star performance, midfielder Wahab Hassan Adejare expressed his confidence and excitement.
“We keep doing our best to get good results, we’re aiming to win,” he declared.
While appreciating the support from family and friends back home, Adejare also highlighted the friendly atmosphere at the Gothia Cup: “Everyone is very smiling and friendly here.”
This impressive display comes on the heels of a historic achievement. In February 2024, Beyond Limits Football Academy became the first African team ever to win the prestigious Viareggio Cup, a tournament that has seen past champions like AC Milan, Juventus, and Inter Milan.
