Food security: FG, Osun to Collaborate on Food Crop Farming and Cocoa Plantation Revitalization
The Federal Government is set to collaborate with the Osun State government to boost agricultural development and productivity within the state as part of efforts to tackle the rising cost of living caused largely by food prices.
This collaboration was revealed during a meeting between Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and the Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari. The imminent partnership marks a continuation of the Federal Government’s food security initiative, aimed at bolstering food production by providing assistance to key stakeholders in the agricultural value chain.
Governor Adeleke expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its support, emphasizing the state’s commitment to rejuvenating cocoa plantations through various interventions, including the replacement of aging trees with high-yielding and fast-maturing varieties.
“Before the era of oil, each region focused on its indigenous resources. We are revitalizing cocoa production, and the Ministry has pledged its assistance. We are on the verge of signing an MoU to delineate our path forward,” remarked the governor.
In response, the Minister affirmed that Osun State has indicated interest in rice, maize, and cassava for the next phase, assuring full support from the ministry.
