“Naturally Ahead”: ABU Zaria Showcases Brains, Beauty, and Royalty at Grand Cultural Carnival

In a refreshing departure from the usual discussions around cultism and ASUU strikes associated with Ivory Towers in Nigeria, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has once again lived up to its slogan “Naturally Ahead” .

At the weekend, ABU hosted a spectacular cultural carnival that celebrated the diversity of cultures within the institution.

The 2024 ABU Grand Cultural Carnival, themed “One World: Many Stories – A Cultural Extravaganza,” was a vibrant display of brain, beauty, and royalty, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria and beyond.

The event, organised by the ABU Student Representative Council and its partners, was a testament to the university’s commitment to promoting cultural awareness and appreciation.

History of Excellence

As one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Nigeria, ABU Zaria has a long history of excellence in academics, sports, and cultural displays.

Founded in 1962, the university has produced some of Nigeria’s most distinguished leaders, including former heads of state, senators, and high-ranking government officials.

Colourful Carnival

The cultural carnival was a celebration of the diverse cultures that make up Nigeria, with students from different parts of the country and even international students showcasing their unique traditions and customs.
From the colorful attire to the energetic performances, the event was a true reflection of the university’s motto “Naturally Ahead.”

“I want to extend my sincere thanks to all of you for putting together such a memorable event,” said Muhammad Hussaini (@Muhdelc), the overall winner of the ABU Cultural Carnival 2024, in the title holders category.

“The event was a true celebration of our diverse cultures, and it was clear how much effort and dedication went into making it a success.”

The #abusrccarnival24 featured a range of activities, including cultural performances, fashion shows, and traditional games.

The event was attended by students, faculty members, and guests from across the country, all of whom were treated to a spectacular display of Nigerian culture.

ABU Zaria’s commitment to cultural promotion is a testament to the university’s vision of producing well-rounded graduates who are knowledgeable about their cultural heritage.

As Dr. Ben Ishak, a renowned educationist noted,
“The cultural carnival is an important aspect of their academic program, as it helps to promote cultural awareness and appreciation among students.”

The event was also an opportunity for the university to showcase its rich cultural heritage, with students from different departments and faculties participating in the celebrations.

As ABU Zaria continues to lead the way in cultural promotion, other tertiary institutions in Nigeria would do well to follow its example.

By embracing and celebrating our diverse cultures, we can promote a more harmonious and inclusive society.

In the words of another key stakeholder in the university, “The cultural carnival is a celebration of our diversity and a testament to our commitment to promoting cultural awareness and appreciation. We are proud of our heritage, and we will continue to promote it through events like this.”

The 2024 ABU Grand Cultural Carnival was a resounding success, and many are looking forward to next year’s event.

Congratulations to ABU Zaria on a job well done!
