Despite the rain, Team Nigeria shone bright in their vibrant green and white attire, captivating the audience as they sailed along the Seine.

Flagbearer Tobi Amusan and Team Captain Anuoluwapo Opeyori led the Nigerian delegation in a historic and colorful procession.
For the first time in Summer Games history, the opening ceremony was held outside a stadium, with over 200 national delegations sailing through the heart of Paris, passing iconic landmarks like Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, and Musée d’Orsay.

Amusan who is World Record holder in the 100m Hurdles was gorgeously dressed in Iro, Buba (top), Ipele and Gele (headgear).
‘Iro’ has a literal meaning of the act of wrapping’, Ipele’; (a shawl that goes around the waist )

A Spectacular Opening Ceremony

The near four-hour spectacle culminated in French judo great Teddy Riner and sprinter Marie-Jose Perec lighting a cauldron shaped like a hot air balloon, which rose high into the Parisian sky.

This year’s Olympics mark 100 years since Paris last hosted the Games, with over 10,500 athletes competing for 329 gold medals.
